PostSubject: Making Check Rolls   Thu Aug 14, 2008 9:00 pm

Sometimes an action may require you to make a check roll, such as being sneaky, trying to spot someone sneaking, searching for treasure or perhaps tracking a monster.

This is done using the dice roller application that can be found at the bottom of a reply just under the send button.

To make a Check Roll simply select the die you wish to use, the default is D20 unless specifed otherwise, how many times to roll it, usually just the once, then click send.

It is also important that you specify what you are rolling for, i.e

Stealth Check
followed by the die roll, let's say you got 10.

Then the next poster may want to attempt to spot you sneaking, he will then have to make a Notice or Perception Check, each are the same, just different wording, i.e.

Perception Check
followed by the roll. let's say poster 2 got a 3.

Because he scored lower than the sneak check, he fails to spot poster 1.

To spot poster 1, poster 2 would have had to score equal or higher than poster 1.

Now then despite knowing that this post will no doubt be deleted or stolen by our admin, I feel it's miscarry that the dice be explained in a bit more depth.

When else do/can I have to use a Dice?

A rather good question. The dice roll is also used to decide surprise attack's, in game gambling, certain skills and abilities will require a dice roll or when you believe it is necessary. Feel free to use it at any time a moderator or admin will fix the rest for you.

Example: In very basic playing.

Poster 1

leaps out from shadows and attack's poster 2.

Poster 2

Must roll a Reflex Check however due to it being a surprise attack poster 2 has to - 5 off his Reflex check.

(example yet to be finished)

Perhaps in some kind skill or ability?

poster 2

Uses Rush ability. Skill check <5 attack fails, 6-14 normal damage, 15> X2 damage. OR something like that

(skill may not exist)

HOWEVER

Just because your reflex check failed does not mean your dead, or that you got hit by their rush.

You decide what really happened. In a dash you leap to the side there blade cutting your side, or in a frenzy you bring your shield up, dodge, or even attempt to parry.

(Still working on, rough, rough draft)
